    Default Replacing engine ECU?

I am pondering if my P0340 issues are being caused by a failing engine controller.

The big point is, cost. As my car is now worth about £1500 I don't think it is worth paying for a new ECM and then having to pay for programming at the dealer.

The question is, if I was to get a second hand unit, what needs to be done before removal to be able to re-program it to my car? Or do I need donor car pass details?

How much would a pairing to my car be? and what would I need, eg pass code etc?

Also, can OPCOM do this pairing? - It just happens that I know someone with it.

Part number is 9158670 or Siemens 5WK9153

    Have I missed anything?

    Cheers

I know someone who tried to do this and gave up and bought a new ECU. You will need to completely flatten the donar ECU whilst in the donar car.

Once all the information has been taken off, in theory you should be able to programme it to your car.

All Vectra C ECMs use CAN. You would need to "divorce" the donor ECM from the donor car before removal (needs Tech 2 and donor car security code). You then need to "marry" the ECM to your car (needs Tech 2 and your car's security code).

I've no idea how much this would cost.

So, as long as the donor ECU has been divorced using Tec 2, and I have the security code for my car, everything would be good??? And this process can only be done with Tec 2.

    It's a 04 1.8 petrol BTW.

But, can an ECU that HASN'T been divorced via Tec 2 before removal then be used as a replacement and reprogrammed to my car????

It need to be reset/divorced before it can be reprogramed with a new VIN.
I think it's possible to reset when fitted in your car if you have the pin code from the donor car.
