I used Mobil 1 0W-40 on my 1.8 Astra - expensive but still running better than new at 98,000.

Don't get hung up on part-synthetic (it's not "semi" it's anywhere from 1% to 99%) versus fully-synthetic, that's for the oil chemists.

For a 2002, Vauxhall recommends 10W-40 or 5W-30, ACEA-A3/B3. The API rating should be SL or SM as SJ is now obselete.

5W-40, 0W-40 and 0W-30 can also be used - with the benefit of reduced start-up wear which is just when most wear occurs.

Search for oilman's threads if you want much more detail.

The 10w/40 recommendation is for the Vec-B
The 5w/30 recommendation is for the Vec-C

If you look up your model here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-861-car-engine-oils.aspx You should find a selection of suitable oils.
