Default All that hard work with the EGR cleaning, now the car has been serviced, it is slow!

All Sluggish again after a service. Garage put 10w40 in again! I know the premium stuff is 5w30, but having spoken to Vauxhall 10w40 will be ok for 12 month intervals.

I had previously stripped and cleaned the egr and cleaned the inlet manifold with wynns egr3 in a can, and the car got better on acceleration on the dreaded under 2k acceleration flatspot issue. It used to fly after the parts were cleaned.

But, now since the fresh 10w40 oil, its all slow and hesitant under 2k revs again...It feels like its an effort again to accelerate and get the car to move. Needs a lot of working at it..

...coincidence? Im thinking of getting the 5w30 in the car, this will cause less friction in the engine, and im thinking may help fuel consumption and reduce drag in acceleration..

hmmm, everything put together correctly after the service? I would check your pipes etc just to see if anything has been knocked or not put back together properly

Wouldn't think the oil would affect the acceleration, I would agree check all pipes are secure no leaks etc.

Checked the plugs and fittings. All good.

One bad thing when taking off the engine cover.

The service chaps have managed to crack one of the plastic connectors on the engine cover itself that hold the rubber bungs in place! So annoyed, so have sent off a letter!!! The wrong oil spec was a niggle and not life threatening, but now finding an engine cover THEY broke.. Damn im now a bit narked!

I have scrutinised the swirl valve rod thingies. They look a little dried out, might be sticking before they release on the acceleration. Is there a way to lubricate these?

I was told when I had my oil change last week that 5w30 is the only oil that should be used. It's in the service spec for the car.

    I would not use 10w 40.

I personally think that if the EGR is not playing up, leave it alone. Only clean/replace it if there is a problem, cleaning it when there is nothing wrong can cause issues.

I agree about the oil spec, but it has been covered on here many times. 10w40 will be ok, for 12k miles or a year. The 5w30 was used with the intention of the longer 24 months or two years service schedule plan.

The vauxhall service desk at the main dealer also said 10w40 will be ok in the car, now it is done. Just that 10w takes longer to warm up than 5w on initial driving on start up, thats the cold start up temperature tolerances on a cold engine, the first number...Im still tempted to change it soon anyway to 5w30 for purity. Waiting for the complaint to be dealt with first at the service centre (independent), and see if theyll do it cost free first.

Have you measured the oil level? Alot to much oil can make the engine pretty sloppy...

I would have dismantled all what you belive the garage has been working on, check it, and put everything back. Check for leaks in the inlet air, around the EGR area naturally. Get a person to help you raise the RPM a bit, check for strange noise / air leak noise..
    well, just my thoughts
