Default Brakes looked like they were on fire!!!

Well, I've just finally got round to fitting my 314mm GSI brakes + pads and disc's...

I took the car for a 10 min drive around the block, on a quiet road did a few start / stops etc no faster than 25-30mph... they work and feel great! Maybe a little soft at first and need a bit more of a push on the peddle, but that'll be because they need bedding in.

Well, pulled back up on the drive, big smile on my face to see a screaming woman (GF) shouting and pointing at me!

I get out to see smoke blowing out around the engine bay! I then realise its the wheel arches and the brakes!

So anyway, a few buckets of water later.... its all cooled down and looks fine. Really scarey moment!

The only thing I can think of it being is that I never wiped all the grease and oil off the new discs properly, or maybe some brake fluid on the disc? The brakes arent rubbing, no squealing, they dont feel greasy now, so I'm guessing that it has to be that. I've checked the fluid level and it hasnt gone up or down...

I'm just wondering how long it'll take to burn off??? I've got some brake/clutch cleaner, but I'm worried about spraying that on the discs at the moment.

I'm eyeing up whether to use the car tonight now??? BUt I'll have to use it sometime I guess... just take it slow...

Sounds like the rust proof oil to me. I bet they were not as hot as I got the brakes on Larisa,s Vectra in Devon. I got brake fade and the heat from the disc,s was tremendous.

I had no brake fade at all, so thats why I didnt notice that something was wrong... I'll take it out now and see how it goes again.

Well, just did a quick mile circuit, didnt use the brakes once, the brakes arent hot so that means there not binding I guess... so... just to go out and use the brakes and see if they do anything... gulp

So a circuit using th brakes went fine, no hassles... no more heat than normal (Compared them to the rears)

    Guess thats it sorted LOL
