I bought this one from ebay and when trying to use it it keeps coming up with "LINKING ERROR" on the screen.
States this in the manual too but also says its compatable with all diesel cars made from 2004.
Anyone else got one who can point me in the right direction?

I think that most scanners only work with full-CANBUS cars. Early Vectras were part-CANBUS.

If you have scroll wheels on the steering wheel , then your car is full-CANBUS. If you have 6 buttons then it's part-CANBUS and there aren't many scanners that will work with it.

Yes, they work on early Vectra C petrols which were EOBD compliant but not diesels which weren't EOBD compliant. I should have said this in my first post but I forgot. I have a 2002 GSI and a EOBD scanner works on that but the scanner won't talk to my 2003 DTi.

As per the advert states (as most of them do because most scanners are pretty much the same) - "Works on all 2001 and newer (04 for diesel) cars and light commercial vehicles that are OBD II. (Older vehicles must be checked for OBD II - call your dealer or see the guide in this listing)" - so the car must be at least 2004 AND EOBD compliant (OBD is the for the USA and EOBD is for Europe).

I don't think the Vectra C diesels were full-Canbus and EOBD compliant until some time after 2004.

    Sorry about that.

Have a search on the forum and you'll find a few people - myself included - who have brought an EOBD fault code reader that won't work with a part-Canbus / non-EOBD Vectra C diesel (although the same scanner will read any age of petrol Vectra C).

Daft question perhaps larry, but did you make sure it was plugged into the diagnostic socket properly....I got it the Linking Error displayed when I used it first time on our 55 reg Facelift Club with the Z18XE petrol engine. It turned out I'd not plugged it in properly.

It then recognised the CAN bus protocol on the car...but no DTC' shown thankfully..
