Default New car fault codes and engine management

Hi tomorrow i will be picking up my Vectra sri 1.9cdti auto 2006 registered. What system does this engine run on for checking diagnostics? i have always done my own fault reading on the old vec. Can i buy a good code reader that will cover this management system? can anyone recommend please.... many thanks.

There are a few on the likes of e-bay u481 code reader iirc. But it will only read engine codes, not anything from the abs/air bags/auto gear box etc.

Tech II is the system dealers use (costs a couple of grand) - but you can get code readers in Argos (RAC branded), or on ebay, some of the ebay stuff even claims to let you make some changes to the car, but to stay the right side of the law, make sure stuff you buy doesn't used unlicenced software.

Thanks will try that then, my old reader is very basic in that you count the eml light flashes to get the code. However it has always worked in tracing faults and i have rectified them myself by changing sensors.
I know that the newer vauxhalls wont work with my reader.

Only seems to work on early Vectra C
Tried on mine, other people with 2005MY, and nothing

It's the same connection as you had on your Vectra B, using TEC2
However third party devices may report all the faults, some of which are not relevant
If you do buy a third party device then you need to be aware of that

On the plus side the EMS has two levels of fault reporting
The first level is the "engine fault"
The second level is "EMS fault", and both warning lights come on, however this seems to be very rare

The 'pedal trick' method works on our 55 reg Facelift Club Z18XE pre VVT & has identified codes
    - P1565 : a GM Code for Speed Control Position Sensor a
while back which disappeared of its own accord after a
    week or two ..
then - P0567 : a Generic code identified from the U480 Code Reader book
for Cruise Control Resume Signal Malfunction
more recently which again disapperared of its own accord

    .....
and now - P1565 - again, which I'm leaving alone as I expect it to
disappear of its own accord like last time, as the car
seems to be running OK (apart from a battery issue
which I plan to post shortly for comments).

The U480 I bought of Ebay earlier this year recognises the CAN bus protocol on the car but showed no DTC's which mat indicate they are GHOSTS... Cheers
