    Default Vauxhall Corsa 1.0

Hi - does anyone happen to have one of these? Or be able to give an honest review on one? I need to buy the wife a car to learn in ... don't fancy adding her to the insurance on the Vectra just yet. Looking to spend between 2k-4k for a decent one, looks like that sort of money should get me a 2004-2005'ish one. Whatcar reckon the 1.0 is the one to go for. And there only 120 quid a year TAX and Group 1 insurance. She's not going to be doing much driving when she's passed so I reckon this might do the job nicely - but as always better to hear from someone who's actually owned one.

    Thanks - J.

a perfect little car for a learner / new driver imho....good mpg, cheap tax and insurance, a little sparce spec wise but decent enough....
clutch pedal can be a bit stiff-springy but other than that they are superb, my M I L had one for 4 years (2000 X reg)and i have driven load's when i used to deliver car's.

My Grandad has a 1.2 52 plate, driven it many times and yes, ideal for a learner. Cant see the 1.0 being much different.

NOT a good engine - it's a 3 cylinder, and very under-powered, so much so that pulling out onto a roundabout in busy traffic can be a real hassle. Get a 1.2 instead, it's got the proper amount of cylinders (4) and much better for a learner.

I agree- get a 1.2. Er' in doors had a 1.0 and not much power at all, whereas she has had 2 1.2's and they were great- I even didn't mind driving them!!

go for the 1.2 for sure!!, the 1.0 3 pot has a bad name its not known for its long term reliability, usually giving up the ghost WELL before the 1.2. the only thing to look out for is timing chain rattle when hot so make sure you run it up to temp and listen for it sounding like a little diesel! in general there cheap to maintain and spares are abundant..
