Unhappy My sponsored walk is on hold !

Well, due to the river Severn about to burst it's banks in the Bridgnorth and Bewdley area, i've got to wait for safer conditions !

It said on the local TV station that Bewdley bridge was to be closed overnight (last night) so that the flood barriers could be erected in the town, so i'm not even going to look how high the river is there.

I will be doing the walk hopefully a week later on sunday 6th december, again river levels permitting.

Apologies, but safety must come first.

    Maybe a wise decision matey.

The wife and I were in Bewdley yesterday, and although I expected to see it higher than it actually was, it is pretty high.

One thing is certain, you will need some good wellies or some decent footware when you do decide to do the walk, as it's certainly pretty muddy along the river bank at the present time, and is likely to remain so for some time I would think.

On Monday, Upton on Severn was barely 2ft away from burtsing its banks, and less than 1mtr at Stourport and Bewdley. Some really low area's may already be close to breaching the banks.

I notice when I came over the bridge at Stanford bridge that the Teme looked level with the top of the bank, and was starting to come over the top in places.

I'm just glad I live on high ground, so I dont have those worries, though I fully sympathise with people who are not so lucky.

I'll be doing this walk tomorrow (sunday 6th).
The the river is still high, but i had a look yesterday in Bridgnorth and it's dropped to about 2 feet from the top of the riverbank.
Maybe above the top in places lower down river, but i'm going to go as far as i possibly can.

Good luck with it Phil. I know you will do your best, and I now doubt that the members who donated will honour it if you don,t make the full distance due to circumstances beyond your control.

The river levels are falling. Goodluck with the walk matey. any risky sections I would follow the rail line, very few trains running on the SVR this time of year.
