You chaps heard the above news? Who knows, maybe GM will now decide to keep Saab, ala Vauxhall/Opel.......

Maybe true, but its about more than build quality...Saab's role is supposed to be to offer competition to the German premium brands, even if their Vauxhall/Opel mechanical bits hold them back - in the eyes of buyers, anyway.

I go along with that - the continuing rivalry between Ford Europe and Opel/Vauxhall has improved dynamics, build quality and equipment enormously and narrowed the gap to Audi, BMW etc so Saab are between a rock and a hard place.

When I needed 4wd I looked at Audi, BMW, Land-Rover, Volvo and of course Subaru - it never even occured to me to consider the Daewoo Antara or a Saab - if only Opel/Vauxhall had finished development on the Cavalier/Calibra 4wd system ...........

Well I for one am happy that the Vec/Signum are sister cars to the 9-3....if they weren't then my Signum wouldn't have the Z20NET engine it; instead it would probably have had the Z20LET - iron block and belt driven - no thanks!

Saab are up there in that over crowded, overpriced, luxury car market. Only more of an alternative/obscure brand.
Not really a viable asset/investment in current times as the types of people who'd buy them new are simply buying private number plates instead, to disguise how old their current car is so that the Jone's don't think they're cheap.

GM Europe could just as easily paid Saab (whoever owned them) to develop and/or produce the Z20NET - just like they do with Fiat for the 1.9CDTi and Isuzu for the 3.0CDTi.

16 months - Saab had the V6 diesel in the 9-5 from 2002 model year ie October 2001 - Opel/ Vauxhall used it in the Vectra from 2003.5 model year ie February 2003.
