Stiff gear change, gear selection fine though

Got into the Vectra today after a couple of days standing (the car not me) and noticed the gear change had stiffened up quite significantly. The lever wasn't returning to the neutral position on it's own, Gear selection is fine, going to try and get it looked at by my local dealer tomorrow but can anyone give me a heads up to the possible cause.

Quite common, mechanisim just needs a light greasing once every few years

Where in particular needs greasing? This is really doing my head in

Wasn't sure if the gear linkage cables needed readjusting or replacing
