    Default sat nav..tom tom or garmin

    Hi guys, getting a sat nav for xmas, not quite sure which brand to get, which ones are reliable, easy to use, best maps etc, etc, just need some general advive please !

    i would always opt for tom tom, my dad had a garmin and had a lot of probs with losing sats, tom tom locks on quickly and is great, also i would go for euro maps , you never know when you need it! the only thing i would say is tom tom can take you slightly longer routes but at the end of the day it WILL get you there! hope this helps

    you will get all sorts of advice from people who think theres is better i have tomtom and it has been great for the 2 years that i have owned it so i would say go for tomtom

    tomtom xl widescreen £129 at curries the ad just came on the telly lol

    TomTom for me too but as Andy said people tend to go with what they have used themselves.

    I like the TOMTOMs because they are easy to configure as in changing the screen colours, splash screen etc. Also dead easy to use (unlike the VX Sat Nav ).

    We've had two over the last few years and both are still going strong.

    cheers guys, i have used a tom tom and a garmin only a couple of times each, and a liked the tom tom better, but ive heard that the maps are better on garmin. i think tom tom are the brand leader, everyones got one, but that does not always mean its the best at doing the job, if you understand what i mean......

    I have had a Garmin,a Navman,and a Road Angel,Then I got a TomTom 520 and kicked myself for not getting one sooner !,using the speed camera data base from Pocketworld gps,it fullfills all my needs.

    is bluetooth req ? i have a pioneer stereo in my veccy with all the blutooth fone kit on it, i drive artics for a living and have a blue tooth headset for my fone, also is text to speech useful ?

    as per the what did you buy today thread = just bought another years subscription/new map for my tom tom - i think that its the best at what it does
