Default Swaping from an Astra VXR...

I'm thinking of chopping in my Astra VXR, currently running stage 2, putting out 280bhp, for a Vec C 3.0 CDTi, but before I do I'm after some opinions.

What are these cars like to drive, standard and box'd / mapped?
What sort of MPG are people seeing?
Is there a big difference between the 3L V6 and the 1.9 CDTi engines?

I previously owned a 1.9CDTi Astra putting out 200bhp / 343 lb/ft and that was fast, but obviously a lot lighter than a Veccy, so I'm not too sure what to expect....

    Any help appreciated guys

    Vehicle : Insignia

    Trim : SE

    Engine : 2.0

    Year : 2011

    Default

standard have a smooth pull slow start but mid range strong pull

later models don't like to be boxed so stick to a remap but your won't get much extra

MPG depends how your drive but mid 30s to 40 for mixed driving.

1.9cdti is a fiat engine and the 3.0 is a isuzu engine.

the 3.0 lump is a very heavy car and will feel it going round sharp bends

You'll get the same output from a mapped or boxed 1.9 Vec the difference is that the Astra would be slightly quicker off the mark but from rolling though there wouldn't be any real difference as the momentum is already there.

the mapped 3.0cdti would be a little bit quicker(not hugely though) but wouldn't come into its own until crazy speeds where the bigger capacity engine shows itself.

As long as you know that what ever you choose, it will be know where near as quick as your stage 2 Astra VXR.

I have owned both the 3.0 and the 1.9 and covered many miles in both.

A re-mapped 1.9 CDTi is the best all rounder. Quicker than a 3.0, almost as smooth but with normal 1.9 economy of 44+mpg.

The 3.0 is a fine engine, not too good for tuing and the later 184ps Euro4 3.0 does not like tuning at all.

You also have the benefit of cheap servicing and £150 a year road tax with the 1.9.

In regards to tuning, DTUK claim 225bhp and 502nm torque on their website. OK, I know a box isn't technically tuning, but still a good result here http://www.astraownersnetwork.co.uk/...ad.php?t=35151

I can't stick with the Astra. I've owned it 8 months and its been in the garag 9 times, so it HAS to go.

Just remember if a box or remap kils the hp fuel pump and your paying, it could be a 3k bill for a new one.

But the fact is they don't. I tried a DTUK box on my Euro 4 3.0 and you hardly noticed any difference.
