    Eek inlet manifold !

    hi all,
took engine cover of my 1.9 cdti (56 plate 150hp sri estate) today to find the linkage lying around....doh!....have read the how 2 pages on the £1 fix, but can anybody answer whats the best glue for this ?
being a mechanical design engineer i was toying with trying to find some ball joint / rose joints small enough to do the job...anybody else ventured this way ?
i took a drive to the local stealers to chat about it they have made me aware that the actuator could also possibly need replacin...how do you check for thisI can move all 3 (un driven swirl valves)quite easily with a screw driver..
one last thing...the car drives really good, returning upto 50 mpg on cruise mode what do these swirl valves really do ?
    cheers
    simon.

think you might need to bite the bullet, as they need to turn and shouldn't be glued. they drop it from 16v to 8v to help with combustion swirl

Hi mate, the glue is only for the rod linkages, not to glue to the swirl valves themselves, I think a decent araldite glue would be best.

As long as the rod is secure and turns the valves then its pretty much the job done, the problem is when the swirl vales leak which makes you lose gases causing eventual sluggish running.

Mines still on at the moment but the middle two move up and down quite a lot

    Default Thanks

    cheers, for the information
...I guess i will try the fix for a few quid. and of course i will only glue the grommet onto the actauting rod. Just got to get the bits tomorrow and give it a whirl. Will keep you posted

if I fix it then I am gonna remove the egr and give this a clean out too, I remember doing a clean out on my mondeo 2.0 tdci, and this was well cruddy, so I guess I know whats coming up..
are there any how 2s on the egr ?

    thanks again.
