    Default Clutch?

I've been getting what feels exactly like wheel spin when pulling out of junctions, with slight sometimes moderate juddering. only the wheels/tyres definitely aren't losing grip and the engine isn't dropping in RPM. It's also much more prevalent at junctions than say traffic lights.

I'm suspecting the clutch is on it's way out, but i've never had this symptom before.... On previous smaller cars the clutch either worked or didn't.

So being fairly new to large cars and with my C relationship being just 12 months old, I thought i'd ask for some opinions/experiences.

To test your clutch, start the car when stationary.....then put it in 5th gear and try to take off (but give it some revs as well).

If it goes to stall o does stall then clutch is ok, if it revs quite high or feels like it's slipping then the clutch is gone (might also make an awful chunking noise).

This is a great test to do when buying a car as well

My friends 2.2 direct is having the same problems and when we tested the above, you can feel it slipping.....new clutch unfortunately

    What engine is it?

I had this on the old 1.8 Ecotec.

It was definately the clutch showing signs of its age, but bear in mind id done 78000 miles in it. I got rid before it needed doing, as it was very expensive to have done, and wasnt worth it considering the trade in value.

You had to get the clutch just right at a junction, with the perfect amount of revs, otherwise you would get "clutch judder", and have difficulty picking up speed safely.

Tried this tonight and now there's loads of smoke coming from the engine - I had a suspicion the clutch was on the way out, I guess its long gone now!

Anyone got an idea how much a reconditioned clutch might cost?
