when I chainged the oil in my car I have put a drop too much oil in, on flat ground the oil comes just into the fat part of the dip stick above the full mark, aprox one centemeter over full, there is 650 mil ltrs (measured) left in the 5ltr can, I am puzzeled as to why such a small amount 100 mi ltrs has put the stick so far over. If I take the sump plug off I will probably loose the lot

a good point, but it was on the flat and I let it drain for 5 min,, what is bugging me is for the first time in years I MEASURED the oil I put in, exactly four and a quarter ltrs, I shall go all around my area asking people if I can measure there dip stick

You never get all the oil out. Not sure what you did with it once out but I pour mine into an old oil container and it is never the full amount. Yes, measure what you put back in but a lesser amount than the total volume, and then let it all settle and dip it. You can then top it up progressively until it is correct and note how much has gone in.
