Rattle

Hi, I've had my vectra 'c' 2.0dti sxi 52 plate for a month and the engine has just started to rattle (sounds like the left hand side of engine).
It only rattles when standing still. As soon as i press the clutch or give it some revs the noise goes.

Any ideas?

put it into the stealers and apparently a bolt from the water pump fitted before i bought the car is rattling around inside.

I'll see what they say on Monday...

you need to be asking rattling about inside what,if they fitted the water pump prior to you buying the car make sure they give you warranty incase any problems follow up later,if a bolt has come loose the mechanic may not have tieghtend other bolts.LOOSE BOLTS WRECK ENGINES

I had this problem on my last car (clio), was driving to work and water pump went, after I got it fixed, it started making a rattling noise, which went when I started revving!

turned out to be the air conditioning pump clamp. then found out brake discs and pads crumbling all round, brake lines rusted up- 'dangerous', rear suspension arms rusted, front shocks leaking, inner steering rack joints have 'play' in them and noise from n/s wheel (bearing).

£525 for half the work done so far.

To the small claims court for me i think.

MOT only done in Sept and only done 1000 miles since then

Sounds like it has been sitting in storage for some time

What mileage was it on when you bought it, and how much?
If bought from a trader, how much for?

A 2002 Vectra C, sadly I would expect reasonable wear and tear, especially if above 70K miles

£500 seems quite fair, it could easily have been more
These items really should have been picked up on during inspection
Go back to the sales agent and see what they say first

It would have passed on all the MoT points, rust would simply be advisory
If you don't have all the MoT paperwork, go online and obtain it (not sure if this includes the advisories)
However rusted brake lines do not occur within just 2 months...

Went on Vosa website and found the following on the previous MOT but not the current one. They also put the wrong mileage on it but thats a seperate issue thats ongoing

Advisory Notice issued
Some corrosion to brake pipes
Slight play steering rack



Mileage was 88K bought for £2750 from trader.

Still got front discs, front shocks, wheel bearing and play in steering rack to sort out
