Angry Need some legal advice quick please

    Hi guys,

Need help quick, z19dth dropped a valve, untold damage, took it into the garage and they asked me could they take the head off to confirm. I said yes, been asking them for two weeks for the cost of the repair and today just as they are about to give me my car back they ask for just shy of 1600 quid. I`ve asked so many times for a quote or an idea how much it would cost. Could have got another engine and fitted it for about 1k. I`m completely livid and would like some advice.

Sorry guys please no sorry to hear it posts just anything that may help.

Sorry i`m not being nasty just stressed.

I'm no expert, but surely if they're coming up with prices like that, they should give you an idea at what kinda money you're looking at spending on repairs?

Did you sign anything for them to do any work? If you did you won't have a leg to stand on.

if you have approved the work in writing then you are stuffed, however if you didn't authorise it then contact the cab

So long as you have not signed anything or given them any form of verbal agreement to them going ahead with the repairs bar minor investigative work then it's their fault. You would still be liable for some costs though however it would be best to seek advice from CAB etc as the law North of the border is different.

did u aprove the work in writing mate?

either way... give them your home contact details.. provide proof via allowing them to photocopy ur driving licesnse etc etc or give them a copy...

then pick up the car and go... they can chase u via debt collecters etc etc..

If they dont give the car back , phone the police and tell them its been TWOC'D

EDIT... oh scotland... sorry mate.. take all the above with a pinch of salt as its all diff up there and i have no idea about anything north of the border

what other damage was there? if as you say they asked to take head off and you agreed and agreed nothing else they wont have a leg to stand on sounds like you may need to contact trading standards and be able to prove what was said and agreed, they must off been rubbing their hands together in glee, pounds signs all the way for them, shysters, good luck.

Never signed anything, gave authorisation to take the head off.

Even ordered the head to be delivered to their address.

Phoned them repeatedly asking for a costing, nevr once was i asked could they go ahead!

And there is nothing in writing!
