    Default gear lever surround

Guys, what's the safest way of lifting off the gear lever surround (manual box) to get to gear linkage without breaking it!! need to grease the joints in there as the gear lever's getting a bit notchy, also what's the best grease to use without affecting what are probably plastic/nylon joints.

Take off the gator, should just pull off, then there are 4 ( i think) torx screws holding it in place, remove them, there is a rather large white pin that needs to be removed , slide this out, then at the bottom its like a ball joint, if you have a long screw driver, " pop " it off, very easy to do mate, i have dome 3 gear stick changes so far, if you need a hand , and fancy a drive , am in Farnborough ;o)

Thanks for that mate, are you saying the gator itself just pulls off as it looks like the gator is attached underneath the surround as it were.

Pete, give the gator a good tug and it will pop off, dont be shy as it can be a bit tough, I always take mine off when I clean the car to get rid of all the dust!

The plastic surround is held in place by 4 lugs 2 each side.To remove use the old screwdrive trick each side and the thing normaly comes of ok.

Thanks mate, I often find this that sometimes these jobs look like they are going to be a pain but in the end turn out to be quite easy and straight forward, was just a bit worried I might break the surround, as sometimes I can be a bit ham fisted, as the missus keeps telling me !!
