    Default car/spanner light again

has this prob a while back, garage fitted new egr valve hen all was ok, till now! light comes on bur if i stop engine and restart light has gone until a few miles down the road. A few days ago i put half a tank of deisel and also used some millers deisel sport 4(dosed according to instructions). thinking maybe this caused prob filled rest of tank from different garage to dilut millers, prob still happening!
car is o4 vectra elite estate 150 with a dpf. car has a warranty on it but that of course only covers broken bits, not the cost of putting on machine. garage did say if light came on again prob would be inlet manifold, i have had a look inside using torch and mirror all looks pretty clean. any ideas. is it poss to buy a fault reader, i think garage costs £50 to put on machine so thought may as well but a reader instead and get something for my money. what type? where from?

    Default

It's definitely not the Millers, even if you overdosed it. I'd check all the intercooler and vacuum hoses first. They're the most common reason for spanner lights. Does it go into Limp Mode at the same time?

    Default have found the prob

after reading alot about swirl valves on here, thought i would have a look and bingo,

the rod that links the flaps was lying there not attached at all, i could turn the valves with a screwdriver they did seem loose though, with a bit of oily gunk around the heads. the spanner light was coming on when the car reached about 50 i guess the valves were shut and the engine gases couldn't get out?? I guess that the bearings on the valves are gone causing the rod to wear and come off? any ideas what else could cause this? the car has a 5* warranty with a claim limit of 1k per claim. hopefully all will be well. cant see the point of re attaching the rod it will only fall off again, i know that there is a quick fix on here, a new inlet maifold would be better i think. is there another to fix this or is it got to be a new manifold?
