Default Newbie thinking about a V6 cdti

Hi guys, I'm Rob the newbie and currently looking at Vectra V6 CDTi's in both elite and SRi trim.

budgeting around 7-to 8k and looking for something preferably less than 4 years old.

1st thing i've noticed is that they are rare especially with a manual box. and secondly i realised that i could tell you naff all about a V6 cdti.

and before i get stoned to death i'll out myself. i'm a taxi driver,

a v6 cdti is going to be a dual purpose car for me replacing my trusty octavia Tdi and my own car a Golf v6 4motion.

if anyone can offer some advice on buying a v6 cdti or advise on tuning potential or throw any other snippet of information my way i'd be grateful

    Cheers guys

For up to £8K you are probably looking at up to 3 years / 50K miles
Yes they are rare, I waited three months before buying mine, and when I did it was just a few miles away!

What sort of use are you planning?
Are you looking for a warranty?
Would you prefer independent or dealership?
If dealership, does Network Q interest you?

I have had mine since November 2006, bought when it was just over 12 months old with 10K miles
For that reason I thought it hadn't yet had a service (2 years / 30K miles), however turned out it had!
It's now on 97K miles and had a service roughly every 9 months / 20K miles
It passes through services without any problem

It has suffered the usual Vectra problems; switches, bulbs, etc
However it lasted longer than my previous Vectra before suffering its first major problem
This is known as a blocked SCV, takes about 3 days to fix and costs at least £1000
However this only affects engines up to 2006 (allegedly)
I suspect all the engine vibration took the clutch which went a few weeks later

Do NOT tune the 3.0 V6 CDTI
The gearbox is already on the limit for torque (see clutch above)
The car is all about mid speed acceleration, which makes it ideal for people who don't want to tune
If you want to go that route, then look at the 1.9 CDTI 150, but with that comes all the issues with that engine

Other disadvantages to the 3.0 V6 CDTI are brakes and tyres, as they wear out faster than they do on the smaller engines
However it should be more reliable in the longer term, just when it does go wrong expect the repair bill to be £1000 each time!

However you don't buy a car like this to save money!
I bought mine for the ease of overtaking on rural Scottish roads, as well as the lack of cabin noise above 20mph (when compared to other diesels)

I live in Cumbernauld so you are more than welcome to take a rooster shot gun seat in mine to compare what's on offer

Don't even consider using it for taxi work
Two locals here had 3.0 V6 CDTI, they didn't last long with them, due to the 30mpg

yes i am daft and yes i'm going to taxi a V6 CDTI

the way i'm looking at it for what it costs to run 2 cars with two sets of insurance tax mot repairs, servicing and running costs i'm as well having one car that fills both roles

So yup V6 CDTi taxi for me, might take you up on that offer of shotgun sometime soon, hopefully going to look at a SRi out in milnathort this weekend

    so to answer your questions

    Use: Taxi/motorway cruiser
warranty: nope i expect things to go wrong and budget for that
:indy or dealer: whoever has one that i like
Network Q : tell me more

whats this SCV you mention, sounds nasty and is it preventable?
