Default Fitting a 2.2 Direct Exhaust on a 1.8VVTi Question

    Hi Guys,

I have asked a simlar question in the past but i have now got myself a full 2.2 Direct Exhaust Systed with Dual Tail Pipes and wondered if anyone knew if it was a direct fit replacement?

Will i have to chop any bits off or get the Engine Management Tec2d when finished?

Your thoughts or advice would be appreciated, Cheers Andy

No Tech2 required, that's for sure.

Isnt this a straight swap on all models ? Obviously, the manifolds are going to be different.

Pretty sure Irmscher do a split(y) piece that bols to the centr section which then allows the two back boxes.

They do but it's not cheap at £150+vat.

Any stainless exhaust fitters should be able to knock a y-piece up for less than 100

I have got the full system up to and including the manifold but from what i can see it looks a little different.

Should i just be eble to fit the rear Cans, Y Peice and centre section without disturding the manifold?

Definately, maybe a reducer will be needed, dependant on the bore sizes, would imagine the 2.2's being slightly bigger than the 1.8.

    Oh Yes!!!!!

After spending the last hour & half under the car i now have a 1.8 VVTi Single outlet exhaust back on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Reducer is definatly needed, the 1.8 has an internal bore of 45mm whereas the 2.2s is 55mm at the front pipe after the 1st joint.

Is this going to be a custom part made for me or can i get hold of one?

P.S, got your payment dan so i will parcel up the mudguards tonight and get them off to you tomorrow.

You can get these from some motor factors/performance parts shop, I know exhaust fitters have a stock of them, you could get one from there.

Cheers bud, I have my colour coder on standby

Mate go to a local custom exhaust fitter, should cost you no more than £60 to have it fitted

I fitted a 2.0T twin system to my 2.2 single. Again the 2.0T system was larger, all I did was cut my centre pipe after it came through the fuel tank cut out, cut the 2.0 with a large over lap, then cut two slots in the larger pipe so it could clamp down on the smaller pipe. A nice smear of zorst putty, clamped it up and its been perfect. Although I dont think size difference was quite as big as yours.
