Talking EGR Blanking or Clean up 'How to's'

Sorry about this, as I know its a common question, but I have done a search for a how to clean, locate, and/or blank off the EGR valve on my Z22SE Veccy...but would like to know if anyone can find me a DEFINITIVE step by step idiots guide/link with pics on here.

And once done, what are the benefits?

    Cheers

I'll do you one when I get home mate as the pics are on my other computer. All you do is fit the VX blanking plate but keep the EGR conected to the loom. If your EGR is working in the first place all it will do is stop it failing in the first place and give you a slightly better idle and stop zorst gas dirtying the internals of the intake system.

If your EGR is not working however blanking alone will not fix the problem as the ECU moniters the movement of the valve alone, so if the valve is jammed then you blank it your still going to get the fault code. You can get round this by getting it tech 2 out or but a little box of tricks for £10.

If your planning to tune your engine then go for it, but if your EGR is working fine then its up to you, the blanking plate only costs about £4 from VX.

If you go to VX with a faulty EGR on the 2.2 all they do is blank it and tech 2 it out anyway they dont fit a working one.

The petrol 2.2 is the only engine in the Z serise that you can do this on as its heavily used un the US and they dont have the EGR system over there.

As long as the EGR is still connected to the loom you will get no EML as the ECU only monitors the actuation of the valve not the gas flow. But as said, if the EGR is faulty or has jammed then the EML will still be flagged.

The chimney is just the vent, Blanking the EGR will help to keep the TB clean, but will also let only cool clean air enter the engine so a cleaner burn. The main reason your Tb is gunked up is from the cam breather, a Catch Tank can sort that out. You will just really see a smoother idle with a clean TB. Just waiting for admin to get back to me mate for the How 2.

Cheers....I am really concerned now as I have just taken the car for a drive to see if my efforts had made a difference....they have made the 'pick up' better i think.

The worry i have now is that when i dip the clutch to change gear, the revs on the rev counter dont appear to drop as quickly as they should....they seem to be hanging....now i'm worried i've ballzed something up.....HELP!!

As long as you didnt remove any metal you will be fine. The revs do hang a little, what you might have found is a clean TB on the 2.2 should have a small gap all around the butterfly, this is just enough to let a small amount of air flow through to govern tick over. If this is covered in carbon your going to be blocking this up, with it clean the right amount of air should be able to get through.
