Right as some of you may know my inlet manifold packed up and I had to get it replaced. It's a 2005 1.9 CDTI (16v) on 87,000 miles when it decided to stop working. However, I think it's been like this since I bought it on 62,000 miles.
Anyway, I also noticed that I had a tapping/ticking noise when idling. So they checked this out for me at the same time and found that the aux belt tensioner was knackered so replaced that. But it kept making the noise. The next call was the alternator (that was replaced in Aug 09) so that was changed for free (part was under warranty). The clutch was gone on the old one and now the car's never been quieter AND there is no more 'shaking' when air con (or other electrics) are on when idling because they changed the tensioner.
Now the bill. This will give everyone a good reference point when looking at getting theirs done

My mate did me a favour for mucking me about over the weekend by fitting the alternator and tensioner for nothing which was good of him
I'm just glad it's all over for now thanks to everyone who gave me advise, much appreciated
