    Default Car is all better

    Right as some of you may know my inlet manifold packed up and I had to get it replaced. It's a 2005 1.9 CDTI (16v) on 87,000 miles when it decided to stop working. However, I think it's been like this since I bought it on 62,000 miles.

    Anyway, I also noticed that I had a tapping/ticking noise when idling. So they checked this out for me at the same time and found that the aux belt tensioner was knackered so replaced that. But it kept making the noise. The next call was the alternator (that was replaced in Aug 09) so that was changed for free (part was under warranty). The clutch was gone on the old one and now the car's never been quieter AND there is no more 'shaking' when air con (or other electrics) are on when idling because they changed the tensioner.

    Now the bill. This will give everyone a good reference point when looking at getting theirs done

    - Inlet manifold (new modified one) = £191.00
    - Control valve (actuator) = £154.00
    - Connecting bar (to connect actuator with inlet manifold) = £6.30
    - Gasket = £12.50

    - Aux belt tensioner = £30.50
    - Alternator = £0

    - Inlet manifold labour 4 hrs x £40 p/h = £160
    - Tensioner and alternator labour 1.5 hrs = £0

    Sub Total = £554.30
    VAT = £83.15
    Total = £637.45

    My mate did me a favour for mucking me about over the weekend by fitting the alternator and tensioner for nothing which was good of him

    I'm just glad it's all over for now thanks to everyone who gave me advise, much appreciated

    Is that what they charge at the garage? £40 p/h? Glad to see some people are raking it in during the recession! Anyway, 'grats about the car mate, bet you're glad to see the back of the long list of problems!

    Sorry mate no part numbers. But they are the prices that they should be charging straight from the dealers

    Yep, mate of mine owns the garage and that's the going rate he charges to all customers, he usually does me a favour with big jobs like this and reduce the overall labour time and i'll get him a few beers instead

    Thanks for all the support guys, car feel like new now. I'm going to give her a good detail over the weekend as a treat

    Yes, I think the 8 cans of stella I gave to my dad's mate help my car pass its MOT.
