5th Gear - 888 Astra vs Astra VXR

Did anyone just see the 888 Astra against the VXR? The 888 performed FANTASTIC!!
On a 1/4 mile the VXR only just was ahead of the 888. On the rolling 50mph start test the 888 won!! And on a race around the track the VXR only just won. I couldnt belive how close they were but the 888 does 45mpg!!!
I really considering looking at a diesel for my next motor!!!!

I've just posted a comment on this on the VXR thread thats going on at the moment.

DIESEL POWER !!! and 45mpg.. Did you see all the black sh!te blowing out the back though....

Glad I dont drive along behind my CR1 tuned Diesel. Thats why people back off behind me.... they cant breathe

saw it too mate and have to say i was impressed with the triple 8 astra although as spoons says it were a bit smokey, which is kind of putting me off getting a tuning box on my car

Not wanting to start a huge debate but the 888 is a highly tuned sri 120, the Vxr was standard, a remap on it and the 888 wouldn`t be close, it is tuned to the max, the vxr is good for another 100bhp !!!

I've only seen mine smoke once bad other time I dont notice it. I have the CRD2

As said before, the 888 is a tuned car, the VXR is a standard one.

But damn I would have EITHER!!!!

I don't understand, mine doesn't smoke at all!

It was a for gone conclusion that the 888 would out run the VXr on the rolling start, and also the fact that the VXR would out run it in a drag race.

But round the track, stick the 888 brakes and the suspension on the VXR and would be a different story. From what I have been told, the final race was a little scripted

I heard that too.

As far as I am aware the 888 won the track race by 0.5secs twice!
