Default Virginmedia PC Guard / Windows 7

    Hi guys/gals

Just wondering if anyone out there has come across this issue.

    Seemingly, i've heard Virginmedia's PC Guard Anti-Virus isn't compatible with Windows 7.

I'm just about to upgrade to Windows 7 this weekend, using my free upgrade disc.... but i was using Virginmedia PC Guard.

Can anyone recommend a FREE or VERY CHEAP half decent anti-virus/internet protection for me to use with Windows 7 ?

    Much appreciated

I would be more inclined to use a known AV like AVG than anything from VM lol

You need anti-virus and a firewall at least. The built-in Windows firewall isn't up to much. I used to use the free editions of AVG and Zonealarm. Anti-malware software is also a good idea - e.g. http://www.malwarebytes.org/.

If you have online banking, you might find that you can get a free copy of an online security software package. I use Barclays and last week downloaded a free full copy of Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2010 (anti-virus, firewall, anti-malware, etc.) which provides more protection that the AVG and Zonealarm combination that I used to use.

I heard Kaspersky was really good... then our work IT installed it & it's a pain in the A55, running updates every 10 mins causing the system to freeze...

I was using PC Guard then updated lappy to Windows 7 and your right it doesn't work.

Ended up buying AVG for £33 i think for a year. Works well so far.

PC Guard from VM is actually pretty good especially for free. It is Kaspersky AV which is very good and uses significantly less resources than Norton Bloatware.
