Failed MOT - Brake pipe

Hi guys.

I took my Vectra for it's MOT today, and just got back.
It failed.

The front to rear brake pipe is old and corroded.

Anyone know how much this would normally cost to fix?

I got quoted £40+VAT.

The thing is, cos my Vectra is lowered, the garage damaged the splitter when putting it on the ramp, so they are repairing and re-painting that for free.
So just wondering if they have increased the cost of the brake pipe/fitting in order to pay for part of the splitter repair?

That is a good price for a front to rear matey, i'd pay that. It's a pretty involved job doing a front to rear, especially if it goes to the nearside wheel (it goes over the fuel tank

sounds fair to me mate considering what some garages just take for labour charges

Lol a very good point, it'll take them at the very least an hour to do, so going by todays normal rates your getting the materials for nowt

I gave my car to my garage before putting it through the MOT just to give it a check over as was worried about a couple of things it might fail on and they picked up that there was some rust on the copper lines. They said however that it was just surface rust but would have to fail it because its 'rusty'.

He basically said give the rust a light rub down with some wet and dry or something and grease it up.

If they are properly old and corroded then yeah I guess it's replacement time

Yeh they are old and corroded. I've got a '52' plate and quite a lot of the undercarriage is getting on a bit now.

I was kinda happy that they damaged the splitter too, because it needed repainting anyway, now I'm getting it done for free. Shame they didn't hit the bumper too....
