    Default 10 30 oil in a 2.0 T??

Had z bit of a blond moment this morning and put 10 30 oil in my 2.0T and the specified oil is meant to be 5w 30 i think...

Now if i have put in the wrong oil, will this have any affect, or is this oil ok for use on my car?? I change the oil every 5-6k normally so max it will only be in for 6 months..

    Cheers

Better to find out just incase though. Especially as yours is a turbo and of course the tubo needs a feed of oil too. If the oil is too thick it may not get a sufficient supply to keep it cool/lubricated

it mention's 5w-30 and 0w-30 John but these numbers are only really teprature related, the most important part is the grade of the oil as to whether its petrol grade or diesel grade, obviously mine is petrol grade..

TBH just wanted clarification yay or nay but i reckon its ok...??

Isn't your car remapped though? If so, I'd definately change the oil...when I had mine remapped I moved to using 0W40 Mobil1 instead of 5W30. 10W30 doesn't offer enough protection in cold weather for the Z20NET engine.

10w is fine down to -20 C (won't get anywhere near that in the UK these days). If you give your car a bit of stick it's the other (higher) number that you need to worry about.

You only need really worry about the w number if you live in places like Finland etc.

There are those that would only recommend 10w because 5w and less have a tendency to weep passed turbo oil seals and valve stem oil seals, particularly on higher mileage (70,000 plus) engines.

I run 10w-40 in my V6 diesel, and it's a darn sight quieter than when it had the 5w-30 econo-oil in it.

You're basically asking why do GM say that the Z20NET needs a different grade of oil than their diesel engines do.
