when i put the ignition on today i got a silhouette of a car with a spanner through it come up on my dash- (is this a service light or a fault with the car) that went away when i started the car up?? any help would be good before i book it in, cheers! oh, and the car seems to be running okay.

get it booked in, or do it yourself and re-set the indicator.

sit in car..

push the prong in the middle of the speedo that re-sets the trip mileage..
put foot on footbrake..
turn on ignition..

hold both down for eternity..

the display will change and a mileage figure will appear, mine's 21,000 for the GSi..

release button and footbrake, turn off ignition..

get a tea and think you've saved £5.00 for some tw#t to tell you how from e-bay..

you should try towing with them mate..good job PVS wasn't far away..
