Default Is the GSI really only 5 speed and

What effect does this have compared to the 6 speed on the V6 CDTI?

Basically I am considering a swap of my CDTI for a GSI and the only thing currently putting me off is the 5 speed box.

The 2.2 DTi has the same box bud, because of the torque in both the DTi and the GSi they can handle the longer gears. I've also heard that first gear on the cdti's is pretty useless where as in the dti it gets you off the line pretty well. I asume the GSi would be exactly the same

I presume its the same box as in my 2.2 dti saab. Surely it cant help with fuel economy?

Well my dti is pretty good for economy but a Gsi isn't going to have that sort of economy with any stretch of the imagination lol

Personally I like the fact that the GSi has a 5 speed box, not sure why though lol

lol sorry the economy comment was more of a general comment as to why would they use a 5speed box if a 6 speed was available.

The V6 petrol has a far longer usable torque curve than the CDTi so will suit the 5 speed better, plus the CDTi will have more torque so the shorter gearing will help with reliability.

    Default

You can fit the F40 6-Speed gearbox from the 2.0 Turbo to the GSi, Depending where the starter motor is on the GSi, you'll need a 1.9 F40 bell housing.

This will make the GSi accelerate like hell but still have an economical 6th.

But the GSi's 5th and CDTi's 6th are not that different.

Does that mean it would fit the 2.2 dti too?

What sort of difference acceleration wise would you be looking at?

Has anyone done this on here?
