Default My stripped out clio 172

This is my weekend toy its off the road at the minute as work has been a little unpredictable so i've been saving the cash instead.

Its a 2001 clio 172 with a few mods, eibach springs, samco hoses, pipercross induction kit, blueflame catback exhaust, snap off steering wheel boss with sparco wheel, omp wrc bucket seat and sparco harness.

the car is basically setup for fast road as thats what i enjoy most i'm not into the idea of going round and round a curcuit. Most its time is spent round the backroads of wales at night when its quieter. It could do with a couple of bits doing to it but the vectra has eaten a load of cash recently. I'm really quite miss it, the vectra is pretty quick and handles well but wouldn't stand a chance on the twisties or of the line. I have currently got the weight down to about 940kgs but aim to get it lower soon. That should give me a power to weight ratio of about 200bhp per tonne. Once its as light as i can get it and money allows i will go and get the supercharger kit taking power to a reliable 250bhp.

Anyway a couple of pics (some are on the evo triangle)

    the luxurious cockpit

Hopefully someone might be slightly interested in seeing something different and its not been too boring for you.

Personally I like 172's, I nearly brought a 172 cup at a bargain price last year.
But I figured I couldn't be bothered with every halfwit on the road trying to race me everywhere, it got a tad dangerous in my 306 with young lads and rep types overtaking me "at all costs" around bends and into head on traffic, when all I wanted to do was drive home safely after a hard day at work.... and that car "looked" totally standard.

Not sure about the whole road racing thing, you might get a few "not so nice" replies here

If you don't like going round in circles on a racetrack and you've had the engine internals properly toughened up, forged pistons + dry sump (essential to prevent loss of oil pressure and engine damage in hard cornering), etc, etc etc.... I'd suggest trying your hand at hill climb. Done it myself and it's great fun

Don't get me wrong i don't go racing round streets like some chav i just love country roads. I tend to only use it late at night as well when the roads are empty and just like making quick progress nothing stupid that would put anyone in danger.

Once i've got my first european trip out of the way and i have built my confidence up a bit driving over there i will be using the clio for trips to the nurbugring as often as i can afford.

The clios are great little cars they are quick handle well and they are cheap to run. on a motorway run it'll get 40mpg easy.

    Very nice, but two suggestions.

    1. Why do you still have a radio?
    2. Surely you need apassenger seat.........

Old pics mate it doesn't have a dashboard anymore so no radio or speakers. The dash airbag has gone as has the headlining. There is still more weight to come out yet though. I will get another seat but to get one the same as that is £400 so i'm just keeping an eye out till one pops up cheap.

Some pics its a work in progress so still looks a mess

Well since last time i posted i have been busy, the car now is back on the road so i've taken the time to tidy it up. I've fitted the dash and majority of the interior out of a phase2 (mine is ph1) this has tidied it up a lot and it feels a lot more modern. I have also ditched the sport badge off the back and painted the rear badges black.

I've still got quite a bit planned to do this includes coilovers as it looks like it on stilts, paint the wheels, willwood 4 pot conversion with 295mm disks so i can keep the 15s and get the cambelt and service.

After not driving it for six months i can't believe how loud the this is and also i'm not used to having to drop it a couple of cogs to overtake. I need a dry day and i'll take it for a little road trip to wales and it will soon put a big grin on my face.
