Here we go! Car Biography 2
Once the first car had completed it's 64000 trouble free miles, my brother decided to buy the car from me. So in January 2006 I ordered another brand new Vectra 1.9 CDTi SRi 150, this time in Black Sapphire.
This time I ordered the SRi Nav with the same 1.9 CDTi diesel engine. I also ordered the 19" wheels. I also called Vauxhall to see if the styling pack would be available for the Vectra and I was told no, so the car was ordered.
Late February and the car arrived at Marshall Leicester.
The same day the car arrived, the VXR black V was fitted.
Before the car was registered, it was sent 1 miles down the road to Steve at Classic Car Services. CCS then stripped the interior and re-trimmed the car in a nice shade of Bourbon red Leather.
Whilst in at CCS, a trip to Marshall's parts department was in order.
After the car arrived, I found that Vauxhall had introduced the VXR Styling pack for the Vectra, which really annoyed me. So after a very friendly but to the point telephone conversation with Vauxhall about the fact that I had asked about this only 6 weeks before. They agreed to give me £500 towards the kit.
So I ordered :-
XP Front Spoiler
VXR Rear Spoiler
2.0 Turbo/2.2 direct Right hand silencer
SRi Twin outlet bumper trip.
VXR Sill plates
The parts were painted and fitted after the car arrived back from CCS. Then into Masterfit for the exhuast to be done.
Both cars together, with the new one newly fitted with the XP spoilers and new interior.
Unfortunalty I had to fly off to Germany on business after the exhaust was fitted, so Marshall's put the car in the showroom (Locked) until I got back 5 days later).
The 2nd April 2006 saw the car arrive home for the first time. The old car was delivered to my brother the night before.
6 weeks later, the Vectra had covered 3500 miles, so off to the VXR Performance centre for it's re-map.
To make sure everything stayed on the straight and narrow, a call to LMF saw a new set of 314mm discs and calipers delivered, and duly painted in the customary VXR blue before being fitted. I also opted for the grooved versions of the disc.
The VXR rear skirt and bumper insert were supplied and painted by Marshall's in late May 2006 ready for PVS.
With our holiday to France not too long in the future, a Vauxhall detachable towbar and a dvd system was installed for Charlotte. Steve at CCS did a fantastic job of re-trimming the head rests after I fitted the screens.
By September 2006 the VXR theme was coming along well, I decided that the wheels needed to be changed for genuine VXR items. So as I needed new tyres, a set of VXR rims were sourced, re-furbished by Darren Burton and fitted to the car. The SRi badges were put back on which confused a few people. The original 19" Snowflakes were put into storage until I had decided what to do with them.
The car remained this way until the end of 2006. then the week before Christmas, disaster struck! Whilst waiting in Starbucks, a nice lady reversed into my front bumper. She was good about it and her insurance paid up without any problems.
February 2007, into Marshall's bodyshop it went for the repairs. Whilst in I ordered the VXR side skirts and these were painted and fitted. There was some doubt at the time, whether the Signum fog light surrounds would fit, but I was sure they would so they were also fitted.
Here was the end result with the new skirts and front bumper, and a new set of VXR mats.
The car was a month away from being a year old and had covered just shy of 30,000 miles.
Towards the end of February 2007, I was at Marshall's looking to buy a few parts when I saw the Signum Elite 3.0 V6 CDTi! This will be covered in Car Biography 3.
But a day after this car was part exchanged, theives broke into the car whilst on Marshall's forecourt and attempted top steel the wheels.
Thank goodness it was not my car anymore! But it was all put back to perfect condition and sold a while later.
So my time with the black SRi had finished after a year and 30,000 miles perfectly trouble free motoring.
It was sold to a guy in Leicester who kept it until I believe early 2008, so who has it now? If anyone knows the where abouts of FN06 YKT it would be interesting to know.
It was spotted by a Vectra C.com member in Teeside I believe.
Car Biography 3 will feature it's replacement :-
Signum 3.0 V6 CDTi Elite.
