    Default Windscreen - MAJOR problems

I have used 'Rain Wizard' plenty of times in the past and it works wonders. Put some on the Vectra and it has made such a mess of the screen, smearing with every wipe.

I have tried AG Glass cleaner, MER glass cleaner and even vinegar to remove this mess but still all I get it smears with every wipe. Not only is it annoying but IMO is dangerous.

Short of getting a new screen from the insurance, is there another way of getting the screen totally clean.

BTW, I do not have a machine polisher, just an elbow full of grease.

    TIA.

Barely 6 months old and Bosch (not flat blades but have ordered flat blades)

The smearing is more visable with condensation in the mornings. Swirly marks everywhere.

Someone on DW has recommended methylated spirits to get the screen totally clean?

They can easily start smearing, if you turn them on during winter, with frozen windscreen, they get damaged, mine was fine up until few days ago when my windscreen was frozen fully, and i thought it would wash off, now they're smearing, and making silly noises, just need replacing that's all!

Would be cautious with the spirits though, could possibly run into engine?

If you do a search for "Rain X" on here, there's a thread with a similar problem.

Short of a blow torch or sledgehammer, it ain't gonna come off, no matter what others might suggest.

    Do I speak from experience?

Years ago, I actually took a hammer to my Sierra windscreen cos I couldn't get the Rain X off.

EDIT - the only thing that did have some success, albeit only slight, was acetone or nail polish remover.

your best bet would be isoprpol alcohol - 100 pure and would remove all finishes other than the glass laminate - dont spill it on the bodywork it will remove any polish /sealants - its the sort of stuff that the sticker kits come with (irmscher pillar trims etc) to remove all dirt/contaminents and ensure the surface is clean before sticking anything on - you will need to buy it from a chemists they will sell you a small bottle over the counter - similar to the stuff you use for body piercings
