The handbrake failed on my '56 plate when it was parked on a incline in the companys car park that I was working at., it rolled into another car (an old Corolla) but did no damage. The security put up notices asking the driver to contact them, they never did, probably because the car was not taxed. I'm sure I had the handbrake replaced in my '03 under warranty as well

Got my vec back today from the body shop the company that did the work was Fiskens of Forfar and i am chuffed to bits with the work they have done paint finish and colour match are spot on a very good job well done i will try and post pics later on in the week but im a bit of a computer spaz lol.

That makes me feel alot better the recall hasnt been done yet so i bet thats whats happend i usually leave it in gear aswell!!!!!!!

I too always leave a car parked in gear, do it out of habit.

Ironically the one time i didnt do it, the handbrake jumped off and the car rolled forward about 5 metres. It served as a little reminder shall we say

I ALWAYS lea ve my cars parked in 1st gear. I got into the habit when I first started driving, as it is a very good habit to get into.
Not only does offer protection against a failed handbrake lever, but it also against snapping cables, or cutting cable if someone wants to nick it. So it could also be seen as a security device for being towed away too by a thief.

I have NEVER trusted any handbrake completely on any car I've ever owned. I've even got the wife to do the same too.
