He's not wrong mate it is most certainly a Fiat engine. Same as mine, that is why they have EGR problems and the 16v models (mine) have the swirl valve issues (like mine again) that cost a lot of money to fix.

GM made a bad move putting a Fiat engine into their cars I think

Vx, Saab, Alfa & Fiat all share the same unit in the 1.9's

As plenty of other major motor co's do

I think Fiat pioneered the common rail diesel and a lot of modern diesels are based on the fiat design.

They are not 100% Fiat, they were developed by a joint ventrure between the Fiat Group and GM, the company is called GM powertrain.

The basic block and head of the 16v 150 engine is based on the original Fiat 2.0 petrol twin cam which was a fantastic engine in it's day, but the technology for the common rail diesel for these engines is split between the two companies.

I think it was a fantastic idea to fit these engines to GM products, they are a good reliable engine. We only see a few bad ones on here compared to how many were built.

I actually got a rough figure from a contact at Vauxhall about the percentage of bad 1.9 CDTi's compared to the good reliable ones and are you ready for this.............................................. ......

Less than 7% have recorded issues. Considering the figure built is in excess of the million mark for Vauxhall, Opel, Saab, Fiat, Cadillac, Holden, Alfa Romeo and Saturn, it is a small figure.

I would be confident in making the statement that I have covered more miles in several 1.9 CDTi's that anyone on this forum. With the expection of the injectors on my current car, all have been fault free.

Good post , nice and positive, rather than the often, the 1.9 CDTI is unreliable
