    Default Warning light Unknown

    Hi All

I have a situation with my vectra 1.9cdti (150). At the moment it’s not causing any problems with the car but is really annoying.

Every morning on start up or if the car has been left for a few hours
I have a light on the dash. It’s in the box on rev counter dial and it’s a car with a spanner through it (engine management light).

It does go off after 5-10mins or a couple of miles down the road.

At first I would switch the car off and start it back up and it wouldn’t come back on again till the next morning but now when I try that the light still comes on. Once the lights off after driving or 5-10mins and I switch off the engine to run into the shop or put fuel in etc the light does not come back on unless the car is left for a few hours which it also never use to do when this problem started.

Has any one else experienced this problem or know of this problem. I have taken the car to a Vauxhall dealer they said all they could do is reset the codes I have also taken the car to a independent garage and they could not find a problem he said the same as the Vauxhall dealer.

Any help and advice will be much appreciated Thanks

If its only the first start of the day then its sounds like one or more of the glow plugs are needing replaced

Just looking through the Haynes manual job seems simple enough

Will I not need the car put back on diagnostics to reset codes after changing plugs or just wait until the morning to see if the light comes on

You might get the light briefly even although the problem is sorted as it stores the code. If it does this leave it and after a few weeks of driving the car the code will clear itself. You can also try disconnecting the battery to reset the codes.

Is it starting ok or does it take longer than usual?

Others have had the same symptoms as you and that has been the answer. Has it just started to happen with the colder weather?

Car with spanner in not service, car with oil can is service.

And you don't need the dealer to reset the service light but you do for the engine fault light
