    Default 2.2DTi Smokey Joe

    Hey all!

I've noticed recently in headlights behind now it's dark a lot that when I accelerate under 2000 revs it fills the road behind with smoke, although when it reaches over 2000 the smoke seems to stop. It does this in all gears by the way.

I had the MOT last month and the emissions result was 1.43, max being 1.50!!!

Anyone know what the obvious things are to do to stop it smoking so much? If anything more for the MOT next year....

    Cheers

I have a 2.2 Signum and I have noticed the same. Only that my car smokes all the way from 1500rpm - 4500rpm. And when I floor it I can do a disappearing trick. Not really bothered as car still runs well. I put it down to the car being old?

This may be due to the inside of the inlet manifold being coated in soot thanks to the EGR valve piping the soot from the exhaust back into the inlet manifold. The soot gets suckied into the engine at times and causes smoke.

I cleaned mine out with Wynns EGR3 and it's a lot better now. Do a search on here for EGR3 for more info. You get a lot of smoke as you spray the EGR3 in, but a lot less afterwards.

Yeah 92k on mine. Light puff when stationary (revved it up in standstill traffic last night on the north circular lol).

I read about the Winns EGR Cleaner stuff, may give it a go. I cleaned the EGR myself a few months ago, was caked but that's all I cleaned - didn't take anything else apart at the time.

Ours kicks out a little puff at first but after that absolutely nothing! I can rev it as much as I want and it won't smoke

my 2.0dti smokes a bit under accelleration but i have no cat or centre box! passed its emmisions with 0.43

put a single shot of redex diesel treatment in your tank when its really empty like fuel light flashing low then put £10 diesel in and take it for a thrash about and the smoke will dissapear!

hi my 2.2 dti smoked badly.i found that the air filter was dirty and the air intake pipe to the turbo was loose and not fitted correctly. this causes the engine to get unmetered air and plays havoc with the engine settings.i think the egr valve was getting the wrong messages from the ecu.i have come a cross this on other cars.hope this helps

Ahhh - my DTi won't start properly under 3/8 of a tank , but the thrash about sounds good lol (normally drive with economy in mind as do 350miles a week just for work)

I'll have a look about on Saturday when it's finally daylight at home! Air filter was changed in April 8k ago, worth looking!

    Cheers
