i presume from your pic you have a cdti 150, then it sounds like the swirl valve rod has come off??

I've asked this before and people just said its what diesels do! I disagree - I've had several diesels before and non have smoked on start up like this and I think there is something wrong...

My 2008 150 CDTi does this and its getting worse as the weather gets colder. The smoke is white/grey and only does it on cold start. Anything after then it is fine. Also, its being a bit slow on cold start even after letting the glow plugs heat up.

How do I check the swirl valve rod? I think it may be another trip to the stealers - what specifically should I tell them to check, cos last time they said it seemed ok and couldn't find the problem - maybe I can point them in the right direction??

    Sorry to Hijack Paulmac!

Sounds like the 3rd injector would be the most likely cause, the smoke is due to it starting (essentially) on 3 cylinders, pretty cheap and quick to fix.

I've heard before that a 2008 should have the new wiring from production, so shouldn't have this problem..
