    Default 2.2 Dti Cut Out

Any advice would be appreciated concerning this.

Sat in the queue at Calais ferry terminal on Sunday & the engine just cut out. No warning at all apart from a very slight (& I mean slight!) clunk from the engine bay about 5 minutes prior. Spanner light came on & the engine wouldn't restart & wouldn't even turn over at one point.

When the ignition was on I heard the slight clunk again & the battery light would flash. Also the speedo needle would jump & the courtesy light would come on intermitantly.

When we got back to the UK got the AA out. Mechanic eventually got the car started but blamed the problem on poor quality fuel due to the smell of the stuff & the amount of crap that came out the back.

Ant thoughts on this? I'm prepared to accept it could be fuel but that doesn't explain all the electrical gremlins - speedo needle etc.

Since then I've drove it from Dover to Wigan & its been fine but it does idle a bit rough from time to time.

    Again, any advice much appreciated

ok cheers i will do. the bloke tested the battery & seemed happy with it so out of those 2 i would say it could be the altenator. still wouldn't explain some of the erratic things the car has been doing (passenger door wouldn't unlock today) but its worth looking into.

?Did he do a proper drop test on it mate, cus sometimes a faulty battery does'nt show up as faulty unless load is added.might be a dodgy cell.

I don't think so. he just put a multimeter on it & said 'looks sweet'. having said that i could only turn the engine over a couple of times after it stalled but all the accessories worked ok & interior & dash lights looked strong.

Would a dodgy battery stop a car in its tracks though?
