Default Brake light on after 4-5k miles !!!???

I had an Mot 6 months ago and I was advsed that the rear brake pads were low, and the fronts were getting low also. So paid £200 for new pads all around.

On Friday the warning light came on on the dash showing that my front break pads are low. As my Title says I have only driven 4-5k miles.!!

I have taken it back to the garage today and they said that the mechanic said it may not be the pads that are worn, it could just need a brake fluid top up or something else???

Does this sound right? I thought the only time the break pad sensor kicked in was when the pad worn away?!

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Check thats the brake sensor wire hasnt come out of the caliper mate, they are not the best fitting wire, give it a little push to make sure its all the way in

    Thanks.

But the mechanics comment of brake fluid? would this cause the light to come on?

Brake fluid level light is the same as the handbrake one mate. If the warning symbol you have is a yellow one with half-circles on it then it probably means the brake sensor is knackered. Find the wire on the nearside brake setup, it should be following the ABS cable down and then go into the front of the caliper. Snipw the wire, strip it back then wind the two ends together. Problem solved, and saves youa teneer buying a new sensor cable...
