    Default poor starting

Hi i seem to have a common problem with starting my car (2.0dti) if left overnight it takes two or three turns of the key before it starts, quite a few others talk about leak off pipes, injector seals, non-return valves and fuel filter housings, can any help me on how i approach this problem and what i try first, i cant seem to find an 'how 2' on the leak off pipes etc!

I'm having a similar problem with a 1.9 cdti some times 2 turns some times alot more.... makes a funny smell whem it takes a few turns to fire (i've smelt this before when i had a problem with my VW caddy van's egr stuck open) do these have egr problems and would that cause it to be hard to start???

CDTi's are very prone to EGR problems and can lead to many symptoms, poor starting, flat spots, lumpy running etc.. there is a how2 on the site to clean the EGR valve, well worth doing.

As for the DTi, I am sure I have read a thread recently about this, can't remember who it was now, have a quick search and I'm sure you'll find it.

I have had the same problem the last few weeks but i think its due to it not being cold enough for the Glow plugs to come on(all though its been very chilly)
This morning the glow plug light came on for the first time in ages and it started first turn and with no smoke.
Ive believed my glow plugs have needed replacing for a while so will make it my next job and see how i get on from there
