    Default Kitchen Knife help

    guys im looking into getting myself a good set of knives for the kitchen. i have had the cheap set that the sharpness doesnt last long or are generally rubbish. what do you recommend?

    we have a set of sabatier knives - again not cheap - but very very sharp and very good

    my set works out from them about 1200 quid,got a mate who`s a chef tho and they weren`t needed so i had em away

    Having done my fair share of evisceration, I'd suggest Victorinox if you're handy with a stone and steel. The traditional choice of Sabatier are also good.

    The best recomendation I can give is to go to a terrific department store and try them all out.

    Personally I'd rather replace a well weighted blade every ten years than make do with one too light or too heavy that'll last fifty years.

    yer i know mate but my sis got a cheap set and uses a global sharpener and it keeps them perfect,i`d be scared to use mine if i`d actually paid that 4 em

    Or continue to use your cheap knives and buy one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/AnySharp-425.../dp/B001DXVL6K. Best £9 I've spent in years and boy, do you get a sharp edge. Yes, they do grind away some of the blade every time but by buying and using cheapie knives, you're squids in.

    as said above m8,i wouldn`t have paid that much for em..........i`ve only got em cos i`ve got some dodgy mates........sister uses my sharpener to keep a crap cheap set sharp enough to shave with
