Question Have I done the right thing ?

I am currently happy with my 1.8 Sri veccy but I have been looking at the insignia for sometime now. I decided to go looking at what was available (within my budget) and ended up buying a silver 1.8 Sri nav with 18" rims (5 months old). If I could afford or find a diesel 160 I would have jumped at it but I didn't see any. Anyway, do you think the 1.8 would suffice?

Oh dear... have you not seen all my posts re. Insignia's. As someone who has owned 2 of them, the first a exclusiv 160, and the last one being the exclusiv 1.8 petrol., now returned to VX, and money used towards a 3 series BMW which I now have, and is a fantastic car.

Whatever you do dont buy a Insignia, trust me you will thank me later.

Both the above Insignia's, had clutch DMF failures, and the second one had numerious other faults from day-1. Check out other forums which have a more active Insignia sections such as VODC, including the german forums, and you will find thats lots of people are having major problems with the car.

Fuel MPG is not especially good on any of the models, both the petrols and diesels are noisy and have more creaks than Nelsons ship.

The 1.8 is totally gutless and underpowered, dont forget the extra weight of the Insignia is like carrying 2 adults in the car all the time.
It s like a great big lumbering elephant to drive, If you want remote opening and closing of windows to work from the remote keyfob you must have a version with all 4 electric windows same with autolocking. The satnav versions are crap, you cannot even add any pio's or speedcams to it, its very limited in its use.

Many features which are found on even lowly basic corsa's and vectra's have been dropped on the basic Insignia's. The later 1.6 tubo models have more power than the 1.8vvt engines, but they tend to be very heavy on fuel. If you ignore my advice and must have one then go for the 160 diesel, but I can assure you, you will regret it!

The major issue is reliablity, and having to wait weeks and months for spares, several members cars have been off the roads for 5 weeks before getting a replacement DMF fixed.

If you have sufficient monies for a new Insignia, take my advice and put a little to it and get yourself a 3 series BMW, if you cant afford a new one, then get a second hand one, wish I'd done it years ago. I can honestly say a 1yr or 2yr old BMW 3 series is a far more rewarding experience than a Insignia.

But you can look at it from a different point of view. My neighbour got his 2.0 CDTi SE in February 2009, and is currently on 29000 miles and it's not gone wrong once!

I won't argue that the Insignia hasn't had it's problems, but they are far less than when the Vectra was launched.
