Default 1.9CDTI (120) popping noise then lots of white smoke

Pulled away fairly quickly from a junction this morning. After about a few car lengths there was a kind of "pop" and subsequent lack of power. Looked in rearview and there was a slight pume of smoke. I assumed I'd blown a turbo hose and continued but car would not rev over 2000.. No fault light or spanner symbol. I turned engine off and back on and when I restarted it and tried to move, there was hardly any power and thick white / grey smoke coming out of it..

Car is 2006. It's currently at the dealers waiting to be seen. Guy thinks it may be the turbo but not sure how that could cause so much smoke unless it's pumping oil into air intake!

Car does run and it was running on all 4 cylinders I think.

    Thoughts?

You sure its not just blown a boost pipe off? If its still running ok it think the turbo will be fine. Check the pipes first

Got a call from the dealers this afternoon. Turbo and intercooler are shot... I guess either the faulty turbo damaged the intercooler or vice-versa. Could have been a stuck dump valve that caused the "pop" or something could have pierced intercooler and ended up in the turbo. Whatever it was, it did a good job anyway.......

I'm guessing the turbo has liberally sprayed oil about the place so although it may not be spinning, all of the pipework, maifold etc is oily and a little oil goes a long way (in terms of making smoke).

Credit where credit is due. The dealers contacted Vauxhall and Vx are going to contribute to the repair costs even tho car is out of warranty so it could have been a lot worse......

Intercoolers fill with oil and are very hard to clean again and are best replaced. Could have been a worse outcome mate, at least vx are stumping up, well done
