Default Help me choose between tyres !

    As above,

Need two new tyres. Fronts are nearly to the limit

I want a decent set of tyres. I do a lot of motorway miles and like the occasional bit of grip for the bends So I like decent tyres. For my Vec B's I hand a soft spot for the Toyo T1R's. The supersoft sidewall was annoying but managable. I just dont think the sidewalls will fair well on the Vec C. Bigger, heavier car and I want a little more comfort than the B provided.

Ive been looking at these, what do you think ?

But of course, there are others that poeple have recommended.

What do you think, any other suggestions ? The NCT 5's on the Vec from new are decent enough.

    Thanks, please help !!

Budget, sort of lol. Id like a low budget but am happy to pay for a decent tyre. I suppose you get what you pay for and for high motorway miles aswell, you have got to be sensible?

To be honest, The Vredsteins a just posted are quite expensive but the most Id like to pay. Have you got any experience with the Ultracs ? Thanks mate.

Yeah, I had them on my Vec since i got her mate. Did almsot 2 1/2 years on them and can't complain at all. After they won the Autoexpress tyre challenge several years in a row for their handling in the wet i tried them in 16" on my Vec B, then 17" on my Vec C. only felt them give up in the wet then on full lock and full throttle (don't ask...)

I actually didn't even click on the link in your first post, hadn't realised you were looking
    at them...

The size you've selected is the standard Vauxhall rubbishy size, if you go for the 225/45/17 it gets a little bit cheaper:

They're the only tyre I'd recommend as they're the only one I've ever used. Other people will recommend what they've used, so in the end it's up to you mate...

Thanks for that, they do sound good, appreciate your advice. Oh, and I wont ask lol !!

Oh, so 225/45/17 is better ? Im only replacing the front two at the moment, will this matter ? And also, will it affect the speedo reading ?

    Thanks again !!

Well, it's generally accepted I think that new tyres should go on the rear axle, as you want the worst tyres on the front so that you can feel them losing traction through the steering (saw a video with VBH in it on e-tyres.com)

225/45/17 is a much more common size, fitted to BMW's etc as well, and is listed int he VX manual for the vectra as an approved alternative. Most people on here fit them instead of the 215/50's as they're cheaper...

As long as you replace the two on the same axle, you're legal. The speedo will be a couple of mph out, but not a huge amount, and it will show you as doing a slightly higher speed than yo are so it's not a problem in that respect. less chance of being flashed...

Ok, imagine wet r'bout & late for work - My old Vec B, First time I bought Toyo's, stuck them on the front and thought "Wow, these grip well" Next thing I know, the rear end has come to the front to see whats going on !!

    I guess thats why !!

Thanks for your help mate, You have sold me the Vredsteins. Will be ordering tomorrow so Ill let you know how I get on once their fitted !!

Cheers buddy - be aware that most places like kwik fit etc won't fit them for you as they haven't supplied them. you'll need some small indipendant place in a back street who'll do it for cash at about a tenner a tyre...
