    Default 16year old threatening to go to a hostel

    wonder if any of you guys can help ? a work collegue's 16 year old daughter is threatening to leave home and go to a hostel , if she does can her parents get the police to bring her back ? this is in scotland so any advice would be appreciated

    Unfortunately she can do what she wants mate(unless she is seen to be in unfit state of mind(unstable medically)

    Yep she's 16 so allowed to do what she wants, I suppose they could try to talk to her (although they probably have been anyway)

    And no, I'm not a dad, I'm only 27, and I know nothing about kids...

    If she is that determined to leave the worst thing they can is stop her she will resent it and them, they unfortunately need to help and support her in her wishes and at least in that way they all still have a chance of remaining a family. 16 is a tricky age and yes I am a dad but thankfully not got to this point yet but for the grace of god

    The key thing is for them to make it clear that she can come back, it's the one's that feel they aren't welcome that end up on the streets.
    She will want to come back once the reality of the real world hits her.

    Agreed!

    Maybe an independent/family friend could talk to her... Hostels can be a gate way to the streets/drugs & or prostitution for the vulnerable

    Unless she's the kind of lass you know is heading for the streets Il put money on her going home withing 48 hours, mates bird took the huff with him once, she took everything with her to one, I dropped her off Sunday night by Monday afternoon she was ringing to forgive my mate and for a lift home and she's the type of lass where confrontation and what not she wouldn't shy away fro
