Default 'check safeguard' and alarm keeps going off!

Hi all, about 3 weeks ago i removed the standard cd head unit from my vectra and fitted my alpine. a week and a half later the alarm sounds and keeps going off every time i reset it (with the key fob) also throughout the night!!!. recently 'check safeguard' has appeared on the dash display on ignition. i dont know if the head unit removal has anything to do with the alarm going off but would like to avoid a dealership for diagnostics especially if its something simple. any ideas???
    cheers

As yours is an estate its fairly common for the alarm connections to the rear windows to become damaged thus setting the alarm off.

Really imo the best way to narrow it down is to get the codes read to narrow down the fault area

    Anyone else?

i've checked the rear windows and the tracks seem intact. i'll have a look at the motion sensors on the maplight, failing that then tech 2 is calling. anyone know what sort of price i'm looking at for the diagnostics?
    cheers

Normally half hours labour to just read the codes, they normally come up with some crap to charge you more though.

have you attempted to set the alarm with the ultrasonics disabled- did the alarm still go off???

and what voltage is your battery showing if you meter it under and off load...just wondering if you have an "excessive" amp draw from your new head unit ?? what did you take the live feed from ?

    regards

Check fuse 23 in the rear boot compartment where the first aid box should be.
I have removed mine due to the alarm going off all the time and i get this message everytime i start the car so maybe your fuse has blown.

Had the broken track on one of my windows, just unplugged the loom, and bridged the terminals with about an inch of wire with a spade connector crimped to each end, had no trouble for months now.
