    Default VXR Cost of Ownership

Next year I will be replacing my car. I really would like something more powerful but I want to weigh up the cost of ownership of the following:-

    2009 Insignia 1.8 vvti Sri Nav 5dr
    2009 Insignia VXR
    2007 VXR8

SO I have made the following spreadsheet
I want it to be as realistic as possible so I can make an informed choice so I have made the following assumptions:-

Purchase price account for +1yr depreciation from today
Not financing (no interest on purchase price)
    MPG manufacturers ratings (combined cycle)
Standard cars (no performance mods ruining MPG or affecting insurance)
Maintenance - 4 new tyres in 1st year (don't know what else to include?)
4.54 UK Litres to a gallon
Assume fuel prices stay at today's rate (£1.04 per litre)
Actual Insurance Quotes on like-for-like basis from Go-compare
    Depreciation calculated using parkers guide.
Mileage on vehicle when purchased @ 12000 miles per year average.

Total cost to own in one year is an extra £1200 ish for the VXR, and nearly £2000 for the VXR8 on top of the 1.8vvti. I suppose this will change in the following year as depreciation will be more on the 2 insignias?!

Do you think this is realistic??

All looks good from here, curious to know why the VXR8 has £200 repair costs??? Are you planning on a small scuff to the bumper

On another note, If you have a 1.8 Vec, I cant see you being happy with a 1.8 Insignia. I've never driven either the 1.8 vec or Insig but from what i've heard the 1.8 in the Insig is pretty poor when it comes to power

My other car. 1972 1641cc slammed beetle. On the road finally!!

lol, yes... £200 is the only number there with no justification. I have no idea what's going to go wrong on a 3yr old VXR8 but thought I should include something. Depends how lucky I am I suppose.
I'm also not sure on the purchase prices. They're based on predicted depreciation over the next year, but they look a little low.

TBH the biggest driver there is fuel as that would be real money out of the monthly wages (unlike depreciation). No surprises there.
I was pleasantly surprised at the insurance quotes on the VXR & VXR8 - quite reasonable I thought!

I'm not happy with my 1.8 Vectra, so no.. I doubt I would be happy with the 1.8 Insignia.. but I wanted to baseline the VXR(8) against something.

    Any more thoughts?

I would say your repair costs are optimistic at best given the mileage your planning on buying the cars at. Looking at rough tyre prices on a VXR8, even cheap tyres (using camskills), the cheapest front tyres are £176 each and rears are £205 each, so to budget £400 for tyres is not in the ball park (4 tyres supplied only are £162 over your maintenance & repair budget combined). Id also be thinking along the lines of a set of discs and pads, especially on a VXR8 not shy of 40k.

Interesting, though isn't it?! Although the VXR8 first year operating costs are higher than both insignias, the initial purchase price (might) offset that. In the following years, the depreciation on the insignias (given they would only be 2 years old, compared to a 4 yr old vxr8) would probably equal the fuel bill of the VXR8.
It's not as clear-cut as I thought it would be.
And this doesn't take account of the 'heart-over-head' considerations... I imagine the VXR is leagues ahead of the 1.8, and the VXR8 even more so... and you can't put a price on driver experience, can you?!

yeah, you see I'm quite scared now. I thought by doing a real-world estimate I would scare the **** out of me and put myself off of a VXR/VXR8 for life.. but now I'm not so sure?

Any more thoughts from VXR owners? Do the numbers look sensible to you?
