Default Squeeky and crunchy braking noise

I noticed this a few weeks ago

Once the car has been driven for a few miles and has warmed up, I do NOT get this when the car is cold

Apply the footbrake and I can hear a squeky and crunchy noise from the front of the car
It is so loud it can be heard over the engine and gets funny looks when I apply the brakes!

The footbrake keeps going as well
If I apply it progressively (which is something I don't normally do) then it keeps going to the floor!

I suspect the brake master cylinder is the cause, but I have not noticed any loss in braking efficiency
I normally only use the brakes very lightly or for small sharp applications, virtually never for high speed emergency applications

As per the warranty, I don't think this is yet covered as a part has not yet failed
However the noise clearly means something is wrong, or near to going wrong!
Perhaps I could bend the truth and book the car in for occasional loss of braking

    Hi M
if your pedel is traveling to the floor then a part has failed.driving the car in this condition is very dangerous as total failure may involve you in a very serious accident. also if you have an accident and your insurance company find out about your problem your insurance is void, get the car in to the garage before you kill someone

any maufacturer/garage/driver should treat any braking issue as a matter of saftey

your local garage/warranty company should be happy enough to put the vehicle on rollers and test the braking efficiency and see if there is any creep on the pedal

if the efficiency shows weak or pedal creep is present ...then as suspected master or even slave cylinder may be on the way out or leaking internally

    - and the warranty company may even agree (if sold to them correctly by the repairing garage) that prevention is better than awaiting the more expensive "cure" of a front end rebuild owing to catasrophic failure of the brakes

The car was inspected the following morning
Dealership performed a visual inspection and then a brake efficiency test, and found all was working correctly, but did agree there was an unusual noise from the offside caliper when the brakes were hot

Network Q refused the claim as there were no worn or failed parts

I then booked the car in for 06 November
If the claim was refused then I was prepared to pay for two new front calipers
As it was the following day the clutch went
The offside caliper was removed and inspected
It was deemed to be sufficiently worn and the claim was approved

Sadly they didn't inform of this at any stage, there are even notes on the papework that I would pay so that both front calipers were replaced together
I will therefore need to book the car back in for this (nearside caliper)
The quote is £210, fully fitted
