    Default Ccr 2006

    Hi all,

I have an 03 plate vectra which has been in to a garage to have a new steering rack and headlight unit. They have disconnected the battery to do the work so the stereo needs the code put in. I had the car delivered last night and the display showed SAFE. I held in the AS button and turned the stereo on and all it came up with is 1 SAFE. I have asked around and I have been told that I have one attempt remaining. I spoke to the garage and told them why does it show 1 attempt left when I have not entered any codes because it did not let me. They have denied touching the stereo but it leaves me in a predicament. I have been told that I have to leave the ignition on and let it time itself out before it gives me that last attempt. If it does not work then its a new unit. (told this by Vauxhall btw) Does anyone know how long it takes to time itself out?

Any help would be great, cheers.

    Jamie.

Thanks for the replies. I do have the code on the car pass but it does not let me enter the code as it says 1safe ans stays like that. I have used my mums rover to block the vectra in the drive and I have left it running with the stereo saying safe still. Just a matter of time then I hope.

have you turned the radio off and held the as button whilst turning it on until you hear a beep - you should then be able to enter a code

Yup, did that and no beep, nothing at all.
Just displayed 1safe and did nothing else. I am going to go through the manual with a fine tooth comb in a bit. I did not see or remember seeing anything about 1 safe in it.

Get into the recoding proceedure, as per the handbook, ie, turn ignition on, turn stereo off, hold down button AS and turn the stereo on. Wait until you get a beep and then release button AS. You'll then be presented with the word SAFE preceeded by a number. Depending on the number is how many attempts you have remaining and the waiting time before you can attempt entering the code. See table below.

Attempt 1 - wait 10 secs. (Display shows 10 SAFE)
Attempt 2 - wait 10 secs. (Display shows 9 SAFE)
Attempt 3 - wait 10 mins. (Display shows 8 SAFE)
Attempt 4 - wait 20 mins. (Display shows 7 SAFE)
Attempt 5 - wait 40 mins. (Display shows 6 SAFE)
    Attempt 6 - wait 80 mins. (1 hr 20 mins) (Display shows 5 SAFE)
    Attempt 7 - wait 160 mins. (2 hrs 40 mins) (Display shows 4 SAFE)
    Attempt 8 - wait 320 mins. (5 hrs 20 mins) (Display shows 3 SAFE)
    Attempt 9 - wait 640 mins. (10 hrs 40 mins) (Display shows 2 SAFE)
Attempt 10 - landfill. (Display shows 1 SAFE) ps, Re Landfill comment. Not really, but you would have to seek expert help to get it unlocked.

Once the waiting period is over (you MUST leave the ignition turned to position 1 & stereo switched on, otherwise you'll wait forever) the word CODE preceeded by the number of attempts should then show on the display. eg, 8 CODE.

Now enter the correct code. If you get it wrong again, the display will then say SAFE followed by one number lower than last time (and you'll have to wait however many minutes for it to time out again - see above table for waiting time)
