    Default Petrol in Diesel!

the wife just rang to say she's put just under a litre of petrol in our 2.2DTI . then realising the mistake has filled it up with V-power diesel. (only had 20 miles distance left or so) so i'm assuming at least 45L of diesel on top of the petrol. I'm guessing it should be ok... but looking for reassurance/suggestions

I wouldn't worry about this level of contamination mate. Keep topping it up with diesel as you use it and stick a new fuel filter on it shortly you'll be fine.

My Old Dear filled her Rover 75 to the top with petrol and drove it till it stopped. I emptied it, fuelled it with diesel and changed the fuel filter it's been 100% ever since and that was well over a year ago so less than a litre is nothing.

Doesn't stop you giving her a sore time over it though!!

I have known people put a small amount of petrol in a diesel as they think it runs better, never tried it myself.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Be careful bud - I've been warned with my 2.2 as the DTi's have very high pressure pumps that use the diesel to lubricate itself, so petrol strips this out and the pump can seize. DTi pumps are roughly a £1000 a pop!!!

When I got mine in April I had starting issues, when my mechanic stripped the pump he found remains of petrol in it, cleaned it through including all fuel lines and all been ok since, but at first thought the pump was shot. The starting issue was leak-off / injectors seals in the end, but the pump scared the life out of me, I'd only owned the thing for 3 weeks at that point!!!!

Mis-fuelled my old td escort with £20s worth of unleaded into half a tank, let it settle and drove ten miles to my garage for a drain and filter change, cost me an hours labour Car ran fine and did another 20k miles before I traded it in for my vec.

So you could be fine...however someone I used to work with misfuelled his brand new freelander from empty to brim, turned the ignition and wrote the engine off, £7.5k. His insurance did cover misfuelling...might before worth double checking your fine print. hth

Or..you could play safe and drain the contaminated fuel amd re fill with fresh diesel.
I know its a waste of money but what price peace of mind?
